Overview

Birding With Me invites you to meet the birds of Uruguay, the land that lies to the east of the river that the Guaraní indians named “the river of the colorful birds”.

This territory has an interesting richness of birds, as a result of a great diversity of environments -the Pampa and Chaco Forest to the west, the Atlantic Forest to the north and east, wetlands, ocean coasts, countless rivers, grasslands, ravines and range of hills, endemic palm tree forests, and many others.

Birdwatching in Uruguay is very enjoyable and productive; this country is home to 50% of the birds of Argentina and 25% of the birds of Brazil, and they can be seen in short distances and in a short time.

Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

This tour benefits conservation activities such as restoration agriculture projects (food-forests, permaculture) that provide environments for wildlife, and the regional project "Alianza del Pastizal" that goes for the creation of grassland corridors for threatened bird species.

How does the tour support local people?

The chosen accommodations are run by local people (family ranches) and most of the food comes from local producers. Local guides join us in different places in the country.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

The local people that run the accommodations are involved in conservation activities and they are delighted to transmit their knowledge and experiences with the guests. That is the same thing with the local guides.
