Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

We partner with the largest pest free project in New Zealand. We provide our experience on fund raising, conservation, education and business development.

How does the tour support local people?

We teach 4000+ kids, 500 parents and 200 teachers per year on our conservation education program. This involves a full day outdoors, seeing endangered species in their natural habitat. We made this program cost neutral by securing funding to underwrite the program. We work with a local contemporary Maori carver to promote an intimate cultural experience. As a result 3 artworks have been commissioned.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

Our program is partially funded by the Ministry of Education and our programs are curriculum linked and negotiated with teachers. Mostly these are 1 day programs but we do some overnight conservation camps (kiwi kids see kiwi in the forest) and up to 8 day custom programs for international students.
