Overview

With the establishment of Manuel Antonio National Park in 1972, the people of Costa Rica decided to preserve for future generations one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse areas in the world. Although it is the country’s smallest national park, the stunning beauty and diversity of wildlife in its 683 hectares is unmatched. Besides, you will have more opportunity to spot wildlife in a shorter time!

Manuel Antonio National Park contains a charming combination of rain forest, beaches, and coral reefs. These beaches are the most beautiful in the country, lined with lush forest. The forest is home to 2 and 3 fingered sloths, toucans, iguanas, the rare and adorable squirrel monkeys, millions of colorful little crabs and much more. The trail that winds around Punta Catedral affords some spectacular views. The park is easy to reach, south of the town of Quepos in Puntarenas province, and is near a good selection of hotels and restaurants.

In this particular tour, you’ll hike through the rainforest along 1,500 meters of easy-access trails in an estimated time of 2.5 to 3 hours, with an experienced & bilingual naturalist interpreter, certified by the Costa Rican Tourism Board. Your guide, equipped with a high-powered spotting scope, will help you locate the vast variety of flora and fauna in their natural habitat, you can also use their telescope to take pictures of the animals up close. You will have the chance to spot Howler, white-faced, and Titi monkeys, plus Agutis, and, if you are lucky, the beautiful Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus), all while learning about the diet, habits, and many more facts about the variety of species you’ll encounter during this incredible nature adventure. This tour includes all transportation, your admission ticket and a fresh break in the middle with fruits and drinks too; what more could you ask for?

Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

We provide our clients for an extra fee aluminum water bottles, and ask them to bring their own bottle of water if they do so, to reduce the use of plastic water bottles for the environment, also for the National Park trash cans which are usually searched through by various animals.

How does the tour support local people?

Our tour supports local people because we use only local and professional locals.
For example our certified guides for our tour National Park Guided Tour, who are certified directly by the Costa Rican government and provide the best guided tours in the country. We use only small, family business, rather than working with big Nation Wide corporations that hire only international guides.  Another example is our ground, we use our only locally hired personal driver's who are all family member's in the Manuel Antonio Area and is operated directly by one of the most recognized driver's in Quepos and Manuel Antonio known as Herminio, who manages all this operation on his own with his drivers.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

We always offer tour provided by high level tour operators, who are involved in sustainability & responsible use of the resources. We make sure that they respect good behavior & teach what to do and not to do to the tourists while they are doing the tour. For example, during the Manuel Antonio Park guided tour, the guide always gives the instructions before going into the park, they promote recycling & good behavior towards the environment (not touching or feeding the monkeys, use the recycling compartments…). We also provide a sustainable vision through our social networks, and try to give new information every day about the flora & fauna, what to do, etc…

Do you provide any additional conservation, community or educational benefits through your wider operations that you’d like to mention?

We manage a connections directly with other eco tours in the area for which we manage their reservation and manage all of this directly through our computers and digital manner so that no paper or other waste factors are in between to preserve our environment.

On top of that we always provide our clients the best activities to become more aware of our environment such as our Monkey Sanctuary tour (importance of animals), Vanilla Spice Tour, Chocolate Tour (self sufficiency), which gives our clients the vision of being self-sufficient without depending on the big corporations.

Certificates

We work together with a nonprofit organization called Kid's Saving The Rain forest.

We work as partners: as agency we promote their work on our social networks & offer their sanctuary tour so the tourists can see the backstage of the association & donate directly when they visit the place.

2. He also provides a piece of one of his properties to a zip lining company in the area, to maintain the trees and animals instead of turning it into a development and at the same time providing full time jobs to locals.

4. We provide our work personal a equal right environment, all of our personal will have the same opportunities no matter their gender, sex or life conditions. We make sure to provide them with the best care and education possible.

As a intermediary between tour operators and clients, we always achieve to educate our clients about the are, providing them with the most efficient information regarding the area, as well as offering them our own sustainable tours. (Literal tour operators who manage their own self-sustainable environment with no need of outside factors.) One of our tours, Villa Vanilla Spice Tour, is operated by a family whom grow and produce all their own needs in their own property and offer a tour to motivate and inform those who are interested on how to become self sufficient and to not have to depend on big corporations, we as well as with the rest of client have achieved to keep this family growing and keep offering their amazing service and motivating them to become a lot more self sufficient.
