Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

For every tour a percentage of profit gets donated to a local bird conservation NGO – our biggest partner is Nature Kenya.

How does the tour support local people?

We only use local bird guides to lead our tours whilst also using onsite guides, meaning that not only do people benefit from their huge expertise but that they’re also supporting local livelihoods. By choosing to go on a tour with us, you are actively choosing to support a sustainable approach to tourism in East Africa.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

On each one of our tours, we try to educate our clients about important conservation issues surrounding East African birdlife as much as possible, which I think people appreciate. All of our guides and staff are passionate about conserving the beautiful birdlife found here, and are more than willing to educate people on these issues.

We also try to limit our environmental footprint by staying on designated pathways, no matter if you’ve just heard an exciting bird far away in the bush! For our larger group tours, we also incorporate educational seminars with Nature Kenya and Nature Uganda to get a more in depth look into the incredible efforts they go through to conserve birdlife.
