About Company

The Monkey Farm is in the process of creating what we believe to be the first wildlife rescue center in the world that will be completely self-sufficient and sustainable. We are a group of volunteers from all over the world, who are turning an old farm into a monkey and wildlife rescue center, while living and learning on site.

Our hope is that our revolutionary self-sufficient and sustainable monkey and wildlife rescue center will become the model for future sanctuaries and rescue centers to follow worldwide.

All rescue centers in the world that we know of, are dependent on outside sources for water, energy, and food to feed both the wildlife and the animal care givers.  This means that if a natural disaster or any type of emergency were to happen, the animals could be in serious danger of not being able to be cared for.  We intend to create a rescue center model that is self-sufficient in every way.

There is no charge for volunteers to live and learn on the farm. We live at the farm for a minimum of a month, but the average stay is two months, with no limit to how long we can stay. We have an aquaponics system to grow both fish, fruit, vegetables and herbs. We also have our own bees producing a high-quality medicinal honey. We milk our own goats and make cheese, yogurt, kefir and ice cream.

We care as much about our fellow men as we do animals. Every Tuesday evening at 7:00, we feed the poor and homeless in nearby Playas del Coco. On Monday and Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 to 8:00, we teach English to native adults who would like to get better jobs to provide for their families. Every Saturday morning, you will find us providing Free Equine therapy at the farm to local children with handicaps.

There is no government funding for programs as unique as ours. Other than donations, all of this is supported only by volunteer guided horseback riding through the jungle and on the beach. Come and play with our baby animals, see the wildlife, learn about aquaponics, and see what we are doing! We love visitors!

The Monkey Farm is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization registered in the United States, ID #81-1664389, and also a registered NGO in Costa Rica.
