Overview

On the Osa Interactive Gardens tour, explore the enclosed butterfly habitat, botanical gardens, and trails on the lookout for some of the country’s most famous mammals and birds. We often see monkeys and flying favorites including scarlet macaws, toucans, parrots, parakeets, and hummingbirds. From our ongoing monitoring and research, OIG has recorded over 150 bird species on the butterfly farm and botanical gardens private reserve.

Explore the giant butterfly house and climb 1 or all 3 of the treehouse platforms, walk the paths looking for butterfly eggs, caterpillars, and pupa while learning to identify the butterfly host plants, and enjoy the peaceful setting of this jungle experience that is located right in Puerto Jimenez. See how the butterfly operation works, moving to our classroom and open laboratory. We go through the process of breeding butterflies, where visitors may be asked to bag and record caterpillars and eggs, hang pupas in the cocoon box, or transfer newly emerged butterflies to the enclosure. Next we explore the rest of the private reserve with an extensive botanical collection, active permaculture farm, frog ponds, and trails where we are likely to see monkeys, parrots, toucans, etc.

This behind-the-scenes tour of Osa Interactive Gardens (OIG) butterfly house and operations is not to be missed. 2-hours; perfect for couples and small groups. We try to run the tour 8:00 am -10:00 am but can be flexible based on needs.
