Overview

Take the exotic journey! The Fishing Nosara Horseback Safari tour is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Your group will ascend the mountain and visit an authentic Costa Rican farmstead for lunch and a tour. Then continue up the mountain to a secret waterfall known to our local guide. The horses are well-tempered and suited to riders from novice to pro.

The Horseback Safari Tour is by far our most popular, and has been glowingly reviewed by Lynn Dombeck of the Associated Press.

3-5 hour tour; Lunch and all equipment included.
Horses for all sizes and skill levels available.

Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

Eduardo's farm is the centerpiece of the tour and the revenue from the tour keeps the farm viable, and keeps the land in the Hernandez family and not in developers'.

How does the tour support local people?

100% of the revenue goes to Eduardo Hernandez, a local Costa Rican. The US office does not collect a commission on this activity, as we are primarily in the rental home and charter fishing business; this tour is a nice option for our guests that do not surf or fish.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

Eduardo is an expert on the local flora, fauna, and culture. He is always excited to educate guests about his home. Also he welcomes school groups from the Nosara Day Camp.

Certificates

Nothing formal, but the tour has been written of positively by the Associated Press.

Top 5 achievements

1. Added a new solar panel system to the farm.

2. Eliminated plastic bottles from the tour.

3. Built a new wood-burning stovetop for the guests dining area (no propane or charcoal required).

4. Raising awareness of river maintenance issues.

5. Zero-footprint tours of this ancient and untouched forest.

What new sustainability steps or initiatives do you plan to take next?

More solar and more clean energy storage.
