Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

Our company supports conservation by visiting protected areas where our admission fees are invested into their projects, including tree planting. If our clients wish to participate in tree planting to support this initiative, we can include it within our packages.

How does the tour support local people?

We support local people by visiting different rural tourism projects that are lead by locals and support sustainability.

For example, we work with local businesses such as La Catarata de la Fortuna en Arenal, night tours in the Curicancha reserve in Monteverde, chocolate tours en Arenal and animal rescue centers, where locals are entrepreneurs.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

Our trips can include visits to locals and learning about their lifestyle.

We include visits to schools in rural areas where we support them by brining materials necessary for their education.

Top 5 achievements

1. We do not use any plastic that cannot be recycled

2. Providing bottles of water that can be reused

3. Reducing the use of paper

4. Our vehicles are always in controls for to reduce the emissions

5. Working with local businesses

What new sustainability steps or initiatives do you plan to take next?

Buy if possible electric vehicles, get involved in conservation programs to protect wildlife and create educational programs while learning Spanish.

We are planning to become more involved in conservation by creating educational programs such as learning Spanish and living in local homes while visiting local communities to share experiences and visit sustainable and environmentally friendly projects. We do all of this at the request of and tailored to our clients.
