Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

We have been involved in tree planting, recycling, beach cleanups, and environmental and equine education and consulting. We also support local wildlife rescue programs. On the ranch, we have planted native trees, and gardens the provide habitat for wild life and birds, provide healthy homemade meals, and promote recycling.

How does the tour support local people?

We support local small businesses and provide training for young people.
We have also have advised local tourism projects and resorts on ecological stewardship and conservation.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

Our guides are trained in Ecology and local ecosystems, birds, trees and wildlife. The primary guide, trainer and teacher is a Zotecnista and Equine trainer and instructor, I have a PhD in Environmental Education and Ecology with years of experience leading Ecological tour to Costa Rica, Kenya, the Galapagos and the Amazon.

Certificates

Kay Dodge was the President of the Center for Environmental Study both in the US and Costa Rica and was envolved in raising millions of dollars for Costa Rican land acquisition for the parks, the Tree Amigos Program tree planting and environmental education programs; consulting with International Audubon; and have developed the Painted Pony Guest Ranch tours which promote Natural Horsemanship and Respect for both the natural and human communities. And very important to us, raising and training our horses in a humane way to provide the best riding experience for our clients and best lives for our animals.

Top 5 achievements

1. Tree planting and sustaining a natural habitat on the ranch and in the community.

2. Teaching environmental education and awareness in our clients and community.

3. Managing, training and riding our horses in a sustainable way to provide them long lives in a more natural environment.(note: so many animals are trained, treated in a non sustainable, even cruel way)

4. Recycling both on the ranch and promoting it in the community, however there is a very long way to go.

5. Providing a safe, positive, riding experience for our day riders and riders that stay at the ranch, so that they will continue to enjoy riding and come back to share our corner of paradise.
