Overview

Looking for birdwatching in a different, unusual and exciting setting you never had thought of before? Join us on a discovery of a lifetime in Bolivia.

Bolivia offers 1400+ bird species, including 20 endemics and another 100 spectacular bird species confined to a variety of limited ecosystems. Some of Bolivia’s endemic birds, such as blue-throated macaw and red-fronted macaw are among the most endangered birds on Earth.

Our birding tours visit a diverse range of habitats and have an emphasis on the unusual endemic species of the region.

Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

Bolivia Naturally partners with a number of local agencies and at the ground level (municipalities) to educate and train local populations while focusing on sustainability and the implementation of good practices.

How does the tour support local people?

Close partnership with the local indigenous communities we visit on our tours fuels our commitment to preserve and protect Bolivia’s natural habitats and wildlife on a local basis.

We select small scale conservation projects in the areas visited, and help these projects raise awareness and funds to achieve their goals.

We aim primarily at preserving threatened habitats and their wildlife through the training of the local communities in sustainable management practices.Current projects underway include the training of local birding guides in the foothills of the Bolivian Andes, endemic & endangered macaws conservation efforts, and community-based fire management initiatives, among others.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

Specific as well as multidisciplinary activities integrate core discipline areas and experiential education modules such as Forest People; Endangered species; El Niño cyclical event; Rainforests collective well-being; Trees in trouble; Pollinators, plants, and conservation; Mysteries of the rainforest; Sounds around; Track Tracks; Invasive species & activities; A closer look to camouflage and survival strategies; Watch the watershed; Nature for sale, and more…
