Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

APB Wetland Centre is a daughter company of APB-BirdLife Belarus, the largest non-governmental conservation organisation in Belarus. APB works for nature protection together with over 6,000 members, volunteers and supporters. It has identified 53 Important Bird Areas and due to our efforts most of those are now under protection by the State.

APB Wetland Centre organises birding and wildlife tours to a variety of exciting wildlife reserves in Belarus. We prepare tours for beginners and experts with the emphasis on seeing rare birds and wildlife, experiencing the beauty of the country.

Our experts – ornithologists, botanists, entomologists and wildlife guides – have been exploring various habitats for years and seem to know almost every single species in the nature reserves and other areas, not only birds and mammals, but also insects and plants. We love our nature and are sure to be able to show you what you are really looking for and even more.

All our profits are reinvested in nature conservation and wildlife protection in Belarus. Travelling with us you will be directly contributing to the work that APB-BirdLife Belarus does to protect the species and habitats you are going to see!

How does the tour support local people?

We hire local people as local guides, which brings them an additional source of income and motivation to stay and protect nature on the area. We also arrange meals and accommodations for our guests at local cafes and hotels. This in an important source of income for the periphery business.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

We tell our guests what kind of habitats particular species need and how these habitats develop over time and with human impact.

About Company

Belarus, Europe’s Secret Wilderness, welcomes you to explore the still unspoilt beauty of its nature. Our tours will take you into the primeval forests and vast river floodplains, the extensive fen mires and bogs. For a long time Belarus has kept its many ornithological treasures secret. Foreign birders simply were unaware of this European gem. The land of Azure Tits and Great Snipes, of Aquatic Warblers and Great Grey Owls will open its treasures for you.

The country is destined to become one of the front-rank birdwatching destinations in Europe. Impossible to visit when part of the USSR, Belarus now welcomes foreign birders: nature at its wildest and its best, ranging from the very localized Azure Tit, and the rare breeding Terek Sandpiper, to the full gamut of mammals – European Bison, Elk, Beaver, Wolf and Lynx.

Belarus is a destination that needs careful planning, but the wildlife dividends of this undiscovered country make it a remarkable experience not to be missed!
