Highlights

  1. 2 full day tour with a colony of wild Griffon Vultures.
  2. Cinereous Vulture, Bearded Vulture, and many other fantastic species are possible.
  3. Small group of 6 guests maximum with 2 guides.
  4. Comfortable and unique accommodation in the middle of nature.
  5. 10% Donation to a local bird organization.

Overview

Day 1 : Meeting at our accommodation in the morning, we will directly drive to St May. From the parking lot, it is only a 15-30mn easy walk to reach the spot where we have the most chances to see the vultures. We will then spend the day along the cliffs, wandering in search of the magnificent vultures and other great bird species! Looking down, we might also see Chamois!

After sunset, we will walk back to our car and drive back to our accommodation, located less than 10km away. We will stay in a splendid BnB nested in the middle of nature. The evening will be spent around a nice dinner, and we will finish the day reviewing your pictures if you feel like receiving some constructive critique.

Day 2 : We will wake up early, pack breakfast and lunch, and head again to St May before sunrise. We will enjoy the vultures all morning, watching them taking off with the first ascending winds. The workshop will end in the afternoon.

Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

10% donation to Vautours en Baronnies, the local organization in charge of the protection of the Griffon Vulture colony.

How does the tour support local people?

We support the local economy, staying in a small B&B owned by local people, going to local restaurants and shops, as well as donating to a local organization.

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

Our guests have the opportunity to learn a lot about birds, their habitat, the threats they face in this specific area, and what is done to protect them. Learning and educating yourself is one of the biggest benefit of our tours.

Do you provide any additional conservation, community or educational benefits through your wider operations that you’d like to mention?

10% of every single tour's profit is donated to a related conservation organization.

Top 5 achievements

Donating last year to different wildlife organizations including:

- Vautours en Baronnies
- Pro Natura
- GOBG
- ASPAS
- Pro Bearded Vulture

What new sustainability steps or initiatives do you plan to take next?

We would like to donate more than 10% of each tour's profit. The company is still young but we would like to increase the share we donate progressively. Also, we will include the organizations we donate to even more in our services, offering our guests presentations and conservation-focused excursions.
