Promised Land Walking Tour, gets you off the beaten track into the ancient beating heart of the Park.  Intrepid-feeling and only slightly challenging. You will be amazed by the remote wilderness of this place.  The van ride alone is a visual delight.  Abundant plants and wildlife, and few people.

Tasman Treasures Tour, let us guide you to some of the treasures of the local area.  Learn the history and ecology while you relax, letting your guide navigate as you take in the magic.  Enjoy short walks to beaches, epic views, sacred springs and even through a cave.

Ethics

At Terra Incognita we support tours that do good in the world. They must help conserve the environment, support local people and provide educational opportunities for guests and staff, or be actively working to improve in these areas.

What conservation activities do you support through the tour, and your wider operations?

In 2017 we founded Tasman Bay Guardians, an aquatic conservation group focusing on the health of the Tasman Bay.  Our Guardians team educate the community through the school programs Experiencing Marine Reserves, Whitebait Connection and Drains to Harbour.  These programs lead to a greater connection to nature and a meaningful understanding of conservation issues.  We are also work on projects such as reef restoration, beach cleanups, tree plantings and more.  A tour with us means you directly contribute to conservation, education and collaboration in the area.  Learn more at tasmanbayguardians.org.nz

How does the tour support local people?

Money from each ticket goes directly to conservation efforts in the area: Abel Tasman Tree Collective (native tree plantings), BirdSong Trust (bird projection actions), Tasman Bay Guardians (school environmental education programs).  Stewart Robertson one of the owners of Abel Tasman Eco Tours sits on many of the areas council boards working on sustainability and marine spacial awareness.  The other owner Helen Forsey manages Tasman Bay Guardians, overseeing the educational programs, linking funding to schools and facilitating these experiential environmental education programs: Experiencing Marine Reserves (snorkeling experiences connecting students to the marine environment), Whitebait Connection (freshwater science, connecting students to their rivers and streams), and Drains to Harbour program (teaching the connection between people, land, rivers and marine environments).

What type of environmental education activities do you incorporate into your tour?

All guides also work in other conservation areas such as for the New Zealand Department of Conservation, Fisheries Management, and in Science communication.  They share their expertise is an easy going manor, and openness to interactive discussion.  Having all worked in the Abel Tasman National Park for many years they know the best places to find wildlife no matter what the season.  Their is not set schedule so as wildlife is encountered so too is the opportunity to share knowledge.  As everyone has a different interest and passion for knowledge our guides adapt to this and insure everyone gets the day they are after.

Do you provide any additional conservation, community or educational benefits through your wider operations that you’d like to mention?

Yes through our social enterprise Tasman Bay Guardians (also a charitable trust).

About Company

Using our our formal education and vast local knowledge as a foundation, Abel Tasman Eco Tours was founded in April 2013 as Golden Future Conservation Tours. Starting on a shoestring with the help of Abel Tasman AquaTaxi, we found a tourism niche delivering high quality ecology tours in the national park. In 2014 we branched off and rebranded as Abel Tasman Eco Tours.  All of our tours have been researched and we have consulted with experts in botany, conservation, ornithology, marine biology and cultural history. We also pay this forward by offering all staff in the Abel Tasman the opportunity to come on a tour with us and learn about the ecology of this amazing place. We believe education is the key to change and we have written a referenced interpretation manual on ecology, conservation and history of the park that we provide to anyone interested free of charge.

If you are looking for an authentic, inspiring experience in the Able Tasman then look no further.  We are passionate ecologists, heavily involved in the conservation of the area and can 'Open your Eyes' to the natural world.  Weather exploring the coast, fossicking in the remote inland track or admiring the local scenic treasures, a day with us is like a day with a geeky mate.  We keep you informed in a casual and fun way, making sure your day with us is one to remember for ever.
